A good content marketing strategy considers the creation and marketing of useful content for your business. Many of us use our blog as a content marketing tool to enhance our business in various ways. This is great, but here’s what I often see.
Content is added to a blog in a sort of haphazard way. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of thought into how the blog is laid out and what kind of content is being added to it. In many cases, it’s just a series of articles the blogger has added as something comes to their head.
I’m certainly not against fresh content blogging. However, from a business content marketing strategy standpoint, you may be better off setting your blog up as a website with a link to blog articles that you publish.
This way at least it gets you thinking about what you’re trying to accomplish in your blog, what your blog is featuring, and perhaps even a mission statement that helps you put together your strategy.
So what would be a good content marketing strategy?
Building Your Brand
Over the years I’ve become more convinced than ever that a blog is a fantastic tool for building your brand online. This can be the case whether it’s building a brand around yourself, or around a targeted business theme.
So, start thinking about content that helps you do that. In my case, you can see that I’m offering money-making tips to my readers.
I’ve attempted to brand myself all over the Internet and market my content through my blog. I’m hopeful that the money-making tips are of a high enough quality that people are going to read those and want to come back again at another date.

Promoting Your Products
What does your business sell? You can use content marketing to promote products both directly and indirectly.
Here’s what I mean by that!
Many of us in the affiliate marketing business model uses passive pre-selling in various ways. Our goal isn’t to sell a product at this point, but rather to provide useful information about it.
Often this is done through product reviews based on personal experience. It’s also done through case studies and examples of other affiliate marketers who are making money in one way or another.
There’s nothing wrong with selling your products on your blog. However, from a content marketing standpoint, your goal is to just get people to come read it to start with, so offering solutions to problems people have in regard to making money is your first goal.
How Often Should I Update My Content
Every content marketing blog is going to have a plan in terms of how they get their content online.
I think one of the most common questions that bloggers have is how often should I be publishing fresh content.
I’ve actually posted this question in a little bit of a different way. Updating your content doesn’t always have to be publishing fresh content.
Let me give you an example…..
We know that Google likes longer articles, but that’s not always the goal of every blog post. However, it can be a starting point for updating fresh content.
I see many bloggers take a 200 to 400-word article and turn it into 1000-1500 word articles as a way to update their content. This is actually a lot of fun because the idea for the longer article is already started.
As a blogger, you can update that content and make it more meaningful to your readers. It also serves the advantage of getting more words on a page for search engines to spider.
At the very least you should be updating your content on a weekly basis in my opinion. If you have the time you should go to your blog and update your content through simple things such as adding a link to an authority site, linking to one of your inner pages, adding graphics and putting a description in the alt tag, and so on.

How Do I Promote My Content
A content marketing strategy combines both contents along with marketing. Of course, the big question is how I promote my content once I have it on my blog.
There are two primary things that you need to consider.
1. SEO. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is built around targeting specific keyword phrases in your content.
To do this you need to have a long keyword list that you are blogging off of. This means either building your own keyword list or hiring someone to do it for you.
You may have a specific keyword phrase in mind that you’re going to build an article around. Then you include variations on that keyword phrase as it sounds natural in the body of your content and you’re giving Google lots of good keywords to spider.
2. Social media marketing.
This is where you use your content to promote your blog in various social ways.
Again many people get hung up on all of the many different kinds of social media marketing you can do.
Here’s what I would say about that.
Get a Facebook account for your business and be sure and bookmark all of your blog posts into it. Actively seek out followers in a niche or business and begin interacting with them
Set up a YouTube account and add videos to it on a periodic basis. Publish your videos on your blog and use them as a source of traffic for SEO and keywords.
Start building an email marketing list. Invite people to join your list on your blog and use it as a way to interact with people on a social basis as well as invite them back to your blog when you make an update.
My Final Thoughts
A good content strategy is one that has varieties. However, don’t let any of this overwhelm you.
If you do the basics I talk about in this article you will be way ahead of most other bloggers in your niche, Plus, you will have the basis of a very solid content marketing strategy that you can add different ways to at a later date if you want.
