Starting something new online can feel exciting until you log in and realise there is quite a lot to learn. You might have an idea for a website, an interest in affiliate marketing, or simply a desire to build something that could eventually bring in additional income. But then comes the question nobody wants to feel embarrassed about asking.
What am I actually supposed to do first?
If you’re considering Wealthy Affiliate, I want to help you understand what your first week could look like, especially with the newer platform and its AI assistant, ACE. This isn’t a promise that you’ll build a successful business in seven days. It’s a practical way to approach your first week without trying to learn everything at once.
And if you’re still deciding whether the platform is suitable for you, you can read my Wealthy Affiliate Review 2026 before making that decision.
What Has Changed Inside Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate has introduced a newer approach to helping members build online businesses. Rather than simply giving you a collection of lessons and expecting you to work out where everything fits, the platform now brings together ACE, business Hubs, Gameplans, training and content creation tools.
ACE is designed to help you organise your business ideas and identify what to work on next. A Hub provides a place for your business information and plan, while the Learn area offers tutorials, platform guidance and live training. There are also AI tools called Writer and Artist, which can help with written content and visuals.
That doesn’t mean you can press a button and expect a profitable business to appear. You still need to understand your audience, make decisions, check your work and give the business time to develop. The difference is that you may have more guidance available while you’re learning.
Day 1: Get Comfortable Before You Try to Build Anything
My first recommendation is simple: don’t rush. Take a little time to understand where you are and what the platform offers.
Wealthy Affiliate currently provides a free Starter option, so you can explore its introductory resources before deciding whether a paid membership is appropriate. You can begin with an idea for a business, an interest you already have, or even uncertainty about which direction to take. The platform is designed to help you start that conversation through ACE and your first Hub.
But here’s what I would do differently from somebody who immediately tries every available tool. I would spend the first day getting familiar with the environment and understanding what I actually want to achieve. You don’t need to master everything on day one. You need a starting point.
Day 2: Tell ACE Where You Are Right Now
One thing I find particularly interesting about the newer platform is the way ACE can help organise a business around the information you provide. But there is something important to understand.
An AI assistant can only give useful guidance when it understands your situation.
If you’re completely new, explain that you’re a beginner. If you already have a website, tell ACE about it. If you’ve been blogging for a while but haven’t earned much income, explain that too. For example, you might say:
“I’m new to affiliate marketing. I want to build a website around something I’m interested in, but I don’t understand how affiliate programmes or website traffic work yet. Can you help me identify what I should learn first?”
That’s a much better starting point than asking AI to make money for you. The aim is to establish where you are, what you’re trying to build and which steps make sense for your circumstances. If you’d like to see what ACE does in more detail, I cover it in the ACE section of my review.
Day 3: Understand Your Hub and Gameplan
Once you’ve introduced your situation, you can begin looking at how your Hub and Gameplan fit together. Think of your Hub as a place to organise the information and direction for your business. Your Gameplan is intended to break the work into manageable actions.
For somebody new to affiliate marketing, those actions might involve understanding their niche, learning how a website works or identifying the questions their future readers are asking. The actual recommendations will depend on the information you provide.
And here’s something I would encourage every beginner to remember. You don’t have to complete an entire plan in one sitting. Choose one useful action, understand why you’re doing it, and concentrate on completing it properly. A little progress you understand is better than rushing through several tasks without knowing what you’ve accomplished.
Day 4: Explore the Training and Community
AI can be helpful, but I don’t believe beginners should depend on AI alone. Sometimes you need a proper explanation. Sometimes you need to see how something works. And sometimes you need another person to answer a question.
Wealthy Affiliate’s Learn area includes tutorials, platform guides and live training resources. ACE can also help direct members towards relevant learning material, and the community provides another place to ask questions and learn from other members.
My advice would be to choose training that relates to the work you’re currently doing. If you’re learning about niches, concentrate on that. If you’re trying to understand websites, start there. You don’t need to watch every class or read every discussion to make progress.
Learn what you need for the next step, then put that knowledge into practice.
Day 5: Explore Your Website Options
For many beginners, building a website is one of the more intimidating parts of starting an online business. You might worry about technical knowledge, hosting, choosing a domain or simply getting something published.
Wealthy Affiliate provides website-building and hosting resources, including a practice website option for Starter members. But I wouldn’t make your fifth day about creating a perfect website. I would use it to understand the basics. What is a website supposed to do? Who are you trying to help? What information will your readers come looking for? And how could your content answer those questions?
Those decisions matter more than having a beautiful homepage on your first attempt. If you’re still learning the fundamentals, my Affiliate Marketing Beginner Guide explains how the different pieces of an affiliate business fit together.
Day 6: Discover How AI Can Help Without Taking Over
This is where I think the newer Wealthy Affiliate platform becomes particularly interesting. ACE can help with planning and direction, while Writer and Artist can assist with content and images. But I want to address something that is often overlooked.
What if you’re already using ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or another AI assistant?
You don’t necessarily have to abandon a tool you’re comfortable with. You can continue using your existing assistant for brainstorming, explaining unfamiliar concepts or reviewing ideas. ACE has a different role within Wealthy Affiliate because it works with the business context and tools available inside that platform.
For example, you might use your existing AI assistant to help you prepare a clear explanation of your business goals. You can then share that information with ACE so it understands your situation. The systems don’t automatically share everything with one another, so you may need to transfer the relevant information yourself.
I believe the important question isn’t which AI tool is best. It’s whether the tools you’re using are helping you make better decisions and complete meaningful work. And remember, AI-generated content still needs your judgement, fact-checking and personal input. Your readers deserve information they can trust.
Day 7: Review What You’ve Learned and Choose Your Next Step
By the end of your first week, I wouldn’t judge your progress by how much money you’ve earned. I would ask a few different questions. Do you understand your business idea better than you did when you started? Have you become more comfortable navigating the platform? Do you know where to find training and ask for help? Have you identified a realistic next step? And perhaps most importantly, do you feel more confident about what you’re building?
You may have explored a website, started a Gameplan or begun learning how to create helpful content. Or you may still be deciding on a niche. That’s fine. The purpose of your first week should be to establish some direction, not to race towards results.
My Personal Experience: Why I Value Having a Clear Direction
When I first joined Wealthy Affiliate, I wasn’t starting with a brand-new website. I already had a website that was around 14 months old, but I wasn’t getting the traffic I wanted.
That experience taught me something important. Simply having a website doesn’t mean you understand how to build an online business around it. I needed to learn more about creating useful content, attracting the right visitors and approaching the work with a clearer strategy.
The training helped me develop that understanding, and over the following months I saw a substantial improvement in my website traffic. That didn’t happen overnight, and it certainly didn’t mean every article I published became successful. But it changed how I approached the business. It’s one reason I believe beginners benefit from having some structure rather than trying to work everything out through random online searches.
The newer Wealthy Affiliate platform is different from the one I originally joined. The seven-day approach in this article is my suggested starting routine based on the platform’s published features, not a diary of my own first week using the new system. And I think that distinction matters.
What I Would Avoid During Your First Week
One of the biggest mistakes beginners can make is trying to accomplish too much before understanding the basics. I wouldn’t spend the first week buying every tool that somebody recommends. I wouldn’t rush to publish a collection of AI-generated articles without checking their accuracy or usefulness. And I certainly wouldn’t expect commissions to start arriving just because I’ve created a website.
Affiliate marketing involves learning how to help an audience, creating useful content, attracting visitors and building trust. Those things take time. Your first week should help you begin that process, not create unrealistic expectations about how quickly it will pay off.
Is Wealthy Affiliate Worth Exploring as a Beginner?
I think it can be worth exploring if you’re looking for structured guidance, website resources, AI assistance and access to a community. But I wouldn’t recommend joining simply because you’re hoping for quick income.
A platform can provide tools and direction. It cannot guarantee that your business will succeed. You still need to decide whether the training fits your goals, whether you have time to do the work and whether a paid membership makes financial sense for you. The free Starter option gives you an opportunity to explore before making that commitment.
If you’re considering joining, I recommend reading my honest Wealthy Affiliate Review first. I explain the platform, its benefits, its limitations and who I believe it is best suited for.

Final Thoughts: Your First Week Is About Direction, Not Speed
If there’s one thing I’d like you to remember, it’s that you don’t need to have everything figured out during your first week inside Wealthy Affiliate. You don’t need a perfect niche, a finished website or a collection of published articles. You need a willingness to learn, a little patience and a clearer understanding of what to do next.
I believe that’s where structured training, useful AI tools and access to a community can make a difference. But the decisions still belong to you. Start with one manageable step, understand what you’re doing and build from there. That’s a much more realistic beginning than expecting an online business to come together in seven days.
