How To Plan For A Disney Vacation

DisneylandThere is nothing more magical than knowing how to plan a Disney vacation in style. It can be Disneyland or Disney World. Kids get indoctrinated at a young age with the Disney Channel, Disney Toys, Disney Theme Parks, and so on.

As a parent, we do not have a chance, right! 🙂

Well, one thing we can do that is fun for people of all ages is planning a Disney vacation. Disney is a great place to visit for the entire family.

It can be expensive. You need a plan of attack so you do not sweat all of the details as they pertain to money. Food is expensive in the park. So are souvenirs.

Depending on the time of year you could spend a small fortune just on bottled water. It can get hot and humid, especially in Orlando in July!

All of these things are why you need your own customized Disney plan so you can focus on having a good time.  Here are some tips on how to plan for a Disney World Vacation.

What Is Your Budget?

This seems pretty basic, but I am surprised at how many people get the cart before the horse, not only here, but in life in general. You need to know how much money you are working with so you can then begin to find ways to save and plan what you will do when you get to the Disney Theme Park.

When you customize your own family game plan, take advantage of everything available to you. Use the Internet to find ways to save and stretch your budget. Time spent up front is time well spent later on.

When Planning A Vacation To Disney Timing Is Everything

This theme park is known for long lines. No one wants to spend three hours waiting in line for a ride.

To save time as well as money, book a trip to Disney during the offseason. From the middle of January to the middle of March is a great time to visit Disney.

Mid-September to the middle of November is also an ideal time to visit. Tuesday and Thursdays are the days during the week when the park is the least busy.

I understand this is not always possible, but it is worth looking at if you can take advantage of any little time savings.

Buy A Disney Package

Disney has a number of packages that will make things simple when booking a trip. There are packages that include hotel stays, admission to the park, as well as airfare.

These packages can be booked with a travel group or by a Disney travel representative. It is best to stay somewhere at the resort to save time.

Resort guests receive free transportation to and from the airport. There is also the option to enter the park early before regular opening time.

Disney has a busing system that is second to none. You will never find yourself waiting in line for your bus for more than 5 minutes.

Take Advantage Of Discounts

There are many discounts available to the Disney traveler. There are many organizations such as AAA that have a number of discounts. Military members can also enjoy reduced fares.

Look at staying at a Disney hotel and packaging it with your park tickets to save money. This can be worth a discount of 20% or more depending on the time of year.

Have A Game Plan When You Arrive

Before visiting Disney it is important to make a list of the must-see attractions. Your family can also note the time of special shows and other exhibits.

This will allow your family to develop a plan of action. They can see these attractions first and anything else interesting along the way. This way all of the family members get to see what they want on this vacation.

When you have a plan and are staying a whole week, you may find yourself going back to a family favorite. Having a plan should have some time built into it for flexibility just in case.

It certainly is tempting with the Internet to try and do all of this stuff by yourself. However, that may not always be the best idea.

Travel agents don’t work for free, but often the amount of money that they charge you to handle booking your trip can be paid for just in the savings they are aware of that you may not be able to research online.

Travel agents have inside information on all the great deals that don’t show up on other websites. Not only that, but they do this for a living and can save you a whole bunch of time and bottles of aspirin. At the very least it’s worth checking out to see if that might be a worthwhile option when planning for your Disney vacation.

How Will You Get There?

The last thing I want to touch on is how are you going to get to your Disney destination? It’s tempting to drive and try to save money this way.

I know I grew up in a family where my dad seemed to like to drive everywhere no matter how far it was. I can never remember flying anywhere on a family vacation and a lot of our vacation time was spent in the car getting there.

If there’s any way possible to fly to your Disney destination this certainly is worth considering. This is going to allow you to spend more time in the park and the areas around it.

You may even be able to adjust where you are staying on the Disney grounds by staying somewhere a little less expensive and adding another day at the end of the trip with the money you save.

Summary: How To Plan For A Disney World Vacation

These tips will help a family book the perfect vacation to Disney. It is one of those trips of a lifetime every family should try and get to at least once. In the future, it will be the trip that comes up when talking to your grandkids about vacations with their parents.

  1. David, you have some great ideas
here. You’ve done a lot of research and that is what visitors to Disney need. I have been to Disney several times, lived in Lakeland, just a few miles from the resort.
It is a great family place and while expensive, there are many ways to save, as you have given suggestions.
I appreciate the time and effort you put into this article to make a visit to Disney the most enjoyable one possible.
    Keep up the good work.
    Joe

    • Hey Joe, thank you for the comment and kind words on my Disney vacation article. Sometimes we plan the best for our families but unable to carry out those plans because of money. My goal is, although it is a vacation is an expensive one, and planning has to be in place so that we can make it the best dream vacation ever.

I myself has been there a few times, that is the reason we have to consider a saving plan to make it happen. Glad you visited a few times yourself, and the importance of careful planning to make it a reality. All the best.

  2. I would really love to go to disney land, i havent really had a vacation. The only place i have went was last summer i got on my first plane and went to vegas and that was amazing. I have not been to an amusment park in a very long time but disney land does look like a lot of fun. Only thing is i dont have a wife or kids to enjoy it with.

    • Disney Land is is always a place that an entire family can go and have a lot of fun. The atmosphere is set up that way. But if you don’t have a family, you can always spend it with close friends and their kids.

We should always take time from our busy schedule and spent some quality time away, and planning for vacation like these, is always a dream come through. My kids are grown now, and they still remember the time they had in Disney World.

  3. Hi David,
Well, it’s been a while since I went to Disney. I am from Japan (we have a Disneyland), and also used to live in San Diego, so the Disneyland is more familiar park to me, but I did go to Disney World which was also great. I can’t really compare two, as I feel both have a different theme.

Thank you for some information as for when the best time to go. I know, even getting into the park can be challenging in some time of the year and I HATE waiting on the line! 🙁 Your article made me miss there and now I want to go there again!

I will use your information next time I go to visit Disney.

    • Kyoko, glad that you had the experience of attending Disneyland. is a dream place to a lot of Americans, and many do not get the chance like some of us, because of the cost, and the size of their families.

If you do have the finance, and is able to take that dream vacation, is good to plan on the best time to plan on going, to eliminate the rush and huge lines. writing about it, makes me miss there as well.

Glad that the information was useful, and that you would use it when planning another trip. Talk to you soon, and thanks again for the comment.
