How To Find New Customers And Increase Sales

The biggest problem that most Internet Marketers face is how to find new customers and increase sales.

The chasm between a potential customer and an actual customer can be as wide as the Grand Canyon. What all of us who do Internet marketing know is, that you can’t have one without the other.

That is to say, a potential customer must be established before an actual customer can create. This is harder than it sounds or we would have more Internet millionaires and 6 figure earners than we do.

With this in mind let’s talk about how to find potential customers and persuade them to become customers.

What Is A Prospect?

I have found many Internet marketers get tripped up from the very beginning. They do not really understand what a legitimate prospect is.

Here are the 2 main things you need to have for a legitimate prospect.

1. Need or desire.
2. Money.

Selling something to someone with a need is easy, but it is not only required. Selling something to someone with a desire is even easier, but only if they have the money to buy it.

I have bought many things in the past based on desire over need. I have also bought many things in the past based strictly on need. I did not always want to spend the money, but having a need forced me to. And I am sure that you can resonate with this.

Of course, having money is a must for your prospect. As an Internet marketer, you are always prospecting based on need or desire.

Once your prospect has identified themselves with a need or desire, it is up to them to take the next step based on their ability to buy. This is why it is critical that you are always prospecting, or always driving traffic to your website.

Once you get them there, you can work on making the sale. More on that in a minute.

How To Find New Customers And Increase Sales - through Facebook ads

How To Find Potential Customers

I am a member of a program called Traffic Wave. I’m glad I did because the whole focus of the program is to increase traffic and to work harder at increasing quality traffic. Email marketing is one aspect of finding these customers and communicating with them on a regular basis to gain their trust.

How do you find potential customers? I like to think of it as fishing.

You must be fishing in a pond, river, lake, or ocean where your prospects are. This can be done either by doing paid or free traffic.

The advantage of paid traffic is your ability to start driving it to your website immediately. I am finding Facebook Ads to be good for this as well, but you need to know exactly how to set up a profitable campaign.

Of course, other avenues can be good including…..

  • – Google Ads
  • – Bing Ads
  • – YouTube Ads
  • – Twitter Ads
  • – Email marketing

And many other ways to do paid advertising.

Free advertising provides an almost unlimited source of prospects when you are fishing in the right pond as well. Of course, nothing is better than social media marketing right now.

As an example, you join a Facebook group where there are people who have a need for your prospect. You spend time hanging out in the group and getting to know people.

These are prospects that will come to your website over time. Your only cost is the time it takes to be active in the group.

Other forms of free advertising include…..

  • – discussion forums
  • – YouTube videos
  • – Twitter
  • – LinkedIn
  • – Instagram

And many more!

Finding potential customers is a never-ending search and using the Internet can be very helpful regardless of the type of business you have. The key is to always focus on promoting a solution for a need people reading your ad has!

using email marketing to turn your potential customers into salesHow To Get New Customers For Your Business

Getting a potential customer is only half the battle. Once you have them there it is time to spring into action and turn them into a customer for whatever you are selling.

Here is a key point I read years ago that has always stuck with me regarding website traffic. Everyone who comes to your website is going to leave.

Think really hard about that. If you do any type of website statistics using a service such as Google Analytics you can see exactly how long somebody spends on your website.

The shorter they are there, the less opportunity you have to convert them into paying customers. The longer they are on your site the more the odds increase you can fill their needs with solutions your product provides.

This is why we spent so much time harping on building an email list. The great thing about building an email list is you can always follow up with people over and over until they eventually purchase from you. If you don’t at least get their email address they may leave your website and never return.

The other thing I want to say about converting potential customers into buying customers is, to focus on pre-selling the product you have before you send them through to a sales page. If you are an affiliate marketer like me, you will be using the sales page given to you by the affiliate merchant.

You have an opportunity to influence your prospective customer before you pass them through to your affiliate sales page. How do you do that?

Start a blog. Add content that solves problems or provides information relating to the need of your potential customer. You can also add testimonials from satisfied customers.

With this in mind, the two most important things you can do to build an email list are to start a blog where you can pre-sell your products in a variety of ways and build your email list on your website and blog.

Final Thoughts

Depending on the age of your website, you will probably need to focus more right now on getting quality traffic first. Traffic Wave can be a big help for that.

You will learn how to create a wave of traffic and then you will also learn how to convert some of that traffic into customers for what you sell.

  1. Hi. Great article. Very easy to understand. I like the way you talked about need or desire and money. The need and desire can be there, but if there’s no money, there’s no transaction. I’ve been able to take a number of things from your article.
I do wish you said some more about the traffic wave program you mentioned.

    • Drian, thank you for the comment. Glad that you find my article easy to understand and the important for someone to have a need and a desire to make money.

Thank you for your input and it is great to know that you got some value here to use to help with your business. I did not elaborate too much on Traffic Wave because I provided a link to my Traffic Wave Review so that you can get the full understanding why I use traffic Wave and why marketers need it for their business. 2. I enjoyed your post about traffic and creating clients. My site is new so I need to focus now more on creating content over converting visitors into clients.

I like your observation that all visitors leave your site. In time as out site develops we need to convert more and more into paying clients.

One thing I will need to start doing is using social media to connect to clients and learn about their wants and needa.

Thanks for the post and help!

    • Jody, thank you for the comment. Good to see that you got some value here and why we need to be continually getting traffic to our offers, and converting that traffic into sales.

Your focus on creating content is a good one. This is how you build your client base by getting them to know you. Email marketing is something you should consider as well as you start getting traffic to your site. good one to choose is Traffic Wave. Hope that helps!

  3. Finding customers is the first, most important, and often hardest obstacle that every business on or offline comes up against. I really appreciated your fishing metaphor here. I’m not sure why, and fishing isn’t something I do, but for some reason I find the image helpful. Maybe because it reminds me I don’t have to make everyone interested in what I’m selling. The one or two fish that bite are what I’m after.

Do you have any more suggestions about how to hone in on the people who need and/or desire your products?

    • Shannah, thank you for your insight here, and yes, finding customers to your offer can be very difficult. This is what cause most business owners to quit before finding out exactly how to go about it.

It have days you may have a big catch and other days nothing. this is one reason that always recommend paid traffic while you taking your time creating quality content with low hanging fruit keywords.

The best approach is filling a void. Most people will come to your site if you provide valuable information on solving a problem. This I have seen is the best way to attract people to your products. Hope this helps!

  4. No traffic, no customers, no money.  There is no way around this.  All three have to come together in order to succeed.  I love your fishing analogy.  I am still learning so much and am starting to focus on Social media.  I am going to take a closer look at your site to see what other great information I might find.

    • Dale, you are right on track with the big three. Glad that you got some value here. Social media is fine, but please stay away from the selling mentality. Giving value will take you much further and your audience will begin to like and trust you, and then eventually buy whatever you educate them about.

Feel free to stop by from time to time, I make weekly updates on what is working for me which you can use to get the same results. Talk to you soon.

  5. That Traffic Wave sounds pretty good.  What is it?  My site is fairly new still and I’ve been concentrating mostly on creating content so far.   But this is good stuff that I’ll be referring to later, so I’ve bookmarked it.  Thank you so much for all the great information 🙂

    • Kayoes, thank you for leaving a comment. You are right on track by creating content and building up your site so that the Google Gods would know of it. Keep in mind that whoever comes to your site is lost and gone forever.

Whatever you have to offer, it takes about seven times for someone to make a decision after you have educate them about it. So the question is, do yo rather have 100 people visit your site? or 100 emails so that you can educate them about your site? This is the difference between failure and success.

Is important to know what your competition is doing. All successful marketers will go after the 100 emails rather than the 100 visitors that see your site one time. and using Traffic Wave makes it possible. Hope that helps!

  6. Hello,i agree with you when you said we have to have need, desire and money. Many people can have the two criteria i mean desire and need but when money is lacking all we could do is in vain. Website can get traffics but when people do not have money they won’t buy products the need or desire to have.

    • I agree with you about people not having money. And these are the people i am looking for. Cause i started not having money, this is the reason I created this website to show others if i can do it, they can do it as well, and i have the formula.

And when you show someone how to make money, they would do the same to others and that would help a lot of people to live a better life and afford whatever they desire. so the need and the desire can bring about money if you have the right system to show you how it is done. I did it with Wealthy Affiliate. Thank you for the comment.
