Writers Work is an all-in-one platform with paid membership built for people who would like to launch a writing career. They offer job listings from different sources and training for aspiring writers. Aside from making money from writing jobs, you can also earn commissions from their affiliate program. In this review, we will learn more about this platform and its affiliate program so you to decide if it’s worth your time and money.

What is Writers Work?

Writers Work is a freelance platform that connects writers to clients that offer writing jobs. The writers can apply for a writing job, submit it, and get paid. This is a great opportunity for those who would like to work from home. But before you sign up, let’s learn more about Writers Work.

Writers Work is founded in 2018 by Jennifer and Mark Harrell, and the company is currently based in Austin, Texas. They are also the owners of the Master Writing Job, MyWritingJob.com, and Surveys4Checks.com.

Since the Writers Work website does not mention anything about them, I’ve checked their previous companies. And this is where I found out that MyWritingJob.com and Surveys4Checks.com no longer exist. After digging further, I found out that these companies garnered low reputations and were labeled as a scam.

What is Writers Work About?

Writers Work works similarly to other freelance platforms. With Writers Work, there are a couple of requirements before you sign up. First, you must be 18 years old and above, and second, you must have an active online account where your payments will be deposited.

If you want to sign-up you can simply go to their website and choose the payment plan for your membership. There are two payment plans and they are:

  • $49 one-time payment for lifetime use of the platform
  • $15 per month

By selecting the payment plan you choose, you will be asked to provide your email address, card information, and zip code. Then click on the Get Instant Access button. Being accepted in Writers Work is relatively easy, in part due to the sign-up fee.

After this, you will receive an email with your login details to access the Writers Work platform. You can now log in, access your dashboard, and immediately start looking for jobs.

On the homepage of your dashboard, you can view your recent writing stats such as your characters typed, words typed, and your time spent typing. When you scroll down you can see recently featured jobs that you can apply to. You can also navigate to the menu on the left side and click on the Jobs link.

Aside from Jobs, the Writers Work dashboard has features such as Projects and Tasks. Client Orders, University, Submissions, Messages, and many more. Moreover, the platform has remarkable features that you can benefit from like the following:

  • The Text Editor – An online document editor where you can create your content and it will automatically analyze your work for grammar issues and readability. You can see your work’s readability score and reading level grade.
  • Portfolio – This is where you can showcase your past work, list the services you provide and create an About page with text or video content. This is what your potential clients will see when they view your profile.
  • Writers Work University – This has a collection of training materials like modules and video lessons if you want to improve your writing skills.

If you are not happy with Writers Work, and your membership is still within 30 days from your account creation, you can cancel your account and get a refund.

But the way to cancel your account depends on your membership type. If you have a lifetime membership you can cancel via their chat support while if you have a monthly payment membership, you need to go to the settings of your dashboard and select the Cancel Subscription option.

Refunds may take up to 10 business days and this is just for the membership payment. The add-ons to your membership are not refundable such as the Premium Video Courses, Freelancers Toolkit, and the Coaching and Toolkit Bundle.

Can You Make Money With Writers Work?

Well, you can’t technically make money with Writers Work because they are a job listing platform. But you can make money from completing writing jobs. According to Writers Work, their writers get paid anywhere between $20 to $65 per hour.

But it is important to bear in mind that there’s no guarantee that you can qualify for high-paying writing jobs or that they are always available. There’s also the issue of steep competition. As high paying writing jobs would most likely require experienced writers. This could lead to fewer high-paying jobs available for beginner writers.

If you ever get a client, you would probably get paid around $20 per hour. This is assuming that your client will provide a steady flow of writing projects, which may or may not happen. You may think that to earn more money, you just need to get more clients to give you more work. But considering the strong competition, it could be difficult to make that happen.

Aside from earning from writing jobs, you can also promote Writers Work to earn commissions by becoming an affiliate. Writers Work has an affiliate program through ShareASale, a third-party affiliate platform. If you become an affiliate you can get:

  • 50% commission on all sales
  • $25 activation bonus
  • 90-day cookie window

If you’re interested you need to create an account with ShareASale if you don’t have one. Then search for the merchant Writers Work and apply. You will get an email notification within a week if you get accepted or not.

To get your payout, you need to have $50 or more in commissions in your account. ShareASale pays through Payoneer, check, or direct deposit every 20th of each month.

Is Writers Work A Scam?

Although other reviews speak about Writers Work freelance scams, it is a legitimate platform. However, I would not recommend it. Though you may find Writers Work reviews that are positive, they are most likely from affiliates promoting the platform. Also, there are some red flags that you must be careful about.

First is the $47 sign-up fee that’s permanently discounted. It costs $94 for the full price. But whether or not the sign-up fee is discounted, paying for access to a freelance platform without a job guarantee is quite risky. Besides, there are freelance platforms where you can sign-up and find jobs without paying for anything.

The next red flag is the shady background of the owners. Their previous platforms have low reputations and were labeled as a scam by many reviews and complaints.

Another red flag is that Writer Work’s social media official pages are dormant for a while. On Facebook and Instagram, their last post was back in June 2019. For a platform that charges sign-up fees, you would expect them to be active on at least one social media channel. But I guess that’s the least of their priority.

Finally, there is no address or contact information on their website. Which makes it difficult for some people who preferred talking to a rep over the phone to cancel their subscription. Writers Work legitimate status could have improved if they have resolved these red flags which may not happen at all.

The Pros and Cons of Writers Work

Just like other freelance platforms, Writers Work also has its pros and cons. You must take time in considering buying the membership since there’s no guarantee that you can find a job right away.

Pros:

  • Collects job listings from multiple sites
  • Easy-to-use platform
  • Decent text editor packed with analysis tools
  • Online course for novice freelance writers
  • Portfolio creation tool
  • Steep competition

Cons:

  • A $47 sign-up fee might be unreasonable for some
  • Few jobs with better pay
  • You can be sent to other sites to apply for jobs
  • Advanced freelance writers may find rates too low
  • Expired job listings
  • You need to pay to access more training
  • Add-ons are non-refundable

Is Writers Work a Scam or Legit?

Although Writers Work is a legitimate platform, there are negative Writer’s Work review ratings and plenty of complaints about it especially when it comes to their refund policy. These complaints are lodged on the BBB website, and the number of complaints reached 48 to this date.

The majority of the complaints have a similar scenario, people paid for the sign-up fee with the hopes of getting a job, but after realizing that Writers Work can’t help them they decided to cancel. However, they didn’t get their refunds. Until they lodged a complaint through the BBB website and their refunds were finally processed.

Although most of these complaints have been closed and resolved, it still gives you enough warning about what to expect if you join Writers Work.

Final Thoughts

Writers Work is a legit website that offers jobs for writers. But I would not recommend it due to the number of red flags that are concerning. You can find better freelance platforms such as Upwork, Fiverr, or Freelancer.com, and signing up will not cost you anything.
